The term "wage gap" simply refers to a disparity in wages (or compensation) between two groups. Often, the wage gap refers to the gap in compensation between what men and women are paid. However, your pay may be impacted by more than one factor (e.g. gender, race, and / or sexual orientation, etc.).
Hence, the wage gap is actually an intersectional concept. Before we can address pay equity and even get to the negotiation table, we need to first understand the issue.
The wage gaps for women, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ are addressed in the below article. However, we acknowledge that there may be additional wage gaps we have not represented. Please share anything we may have missed or additional considerations using the comment functionality!
